The Cumberland Valley Area Development District (planning and service area) is designated as the Area Agency on Aging and is responsible for regional planning, coordination and advocacy on behalf of older persons. The Cumberland Valley Area Development District, Area Agency on Aging is part of a nationwide Network on Aging under the direction of the US Administration on Aging.
The Area Agency on Aging is responsible for implementing a comprehensive delivery system of supportive and nutrition services as mandated under the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended. We administer programs and enter into contracts with local/regional service providers, which makes it possible for older individuals age 60 years or older to remain in their own home, with independence and dignity as long as possible.
The Area agency is governed by a Board of Directors made up of eight County Judge/Executives, eighteen Mayors, eight citizens (one from each county) members and staff with more than 27 years experience administering and coordinating services for older adults.
Services that are available through the Area Agency on Aging fall into five broad categories; Information & Access, Case Management, Assessment, Community-based Services and Elder Rights.
When you have questions about a particular service or need help and do not know who to contact, we can provide you with information on what services that are available in our region. You may need to know what kind of services that are available in other states and our partnership with Eldercare Locator, a nationwide toll-free directory assistance, links older americans and their caregivers with appropriate services and programs in other states.
